Understanding the Mysteries of Godliness

Recently I wrote a post called The Principle of Eternal Lives. I knew when I shared this that it would be contradictory to the paradigm many have of the pre-mortal and post-mortal existence. I don’t want to debate any of this, so please simply consider my answers and make your own prayerful conclusions. Its not my job to convince anyone of anything. The purpose of sharing these things is to formulate questions to ask the Lord to receive your own revelation.

Comment: In the circle representing “Pre-Mortal 1st Estate” you state that “None commit sin until they partake of mortality.” However, we all had our agency in pre mortality. With agency comes the ability to sin.

My response: The prerequisite of sin is not agency but knowledge. Adam and Eve sinned when they partook of the “fruit”(knowledge) which caused them to comprehend their nakedness. (lack of knowledge.) One cannot be condemned if they do not know the law. Each spirit in their first estate is like an Adam or Eve in their innocence.

“For behold that all little children are alive in Christ, and also all they that are without the law. For the power of redemption cometh on all them that have no law; wherefore, he that is not condemned, or he that is under no condemnation, cannot repent; and unto such baptism availeth nothing—“ (Moroni 8:22)

Adam and Eve were commanded to not partake of the fruit of knowledge because it was premature. The spirits that abide the first estate are not given a commandment to “not partake,” but are given this fruit of life freely so that they may know the good from the evil. Satan cannot claim them until they experience such a thing and choose him over the Father.

Comment: The very fact that a third part of God’s children chose contrary to his plan shows not only that we could sin but that we did sin in premortality.

My Response: This is linear thinking where it is assumed that all those who dwell upon this earth are living in a second estate, or first time scenario. Who are the third part and where are they in their progression or digression?

Comment: In fact, those who followed the Adversary sinned to such a degree that they are called the “Sons of Perdition.”

Response: To become a Son of Perdition requires one to deny the Holy Ghost and shed innocent blood, (D&C 132:27) which cannot occur unless one has been previously exalted and shed the blood of a Son or Daughter of God. You cannot effectively deny the Holy Ghost unless you have been given the Gift of the Holy Ghost and the Baptism of Fire, walked with God and then killed another “innocent” son or daughter of God.

Comment: Although the Lord’s atonement occurred in the meridian of time, it’s effects flow both forward and backward in time. The effects that flowed backward in time didn’t stop with Adam and Eve but carried as far back as premortality. While we were in premortality, it was our faith in Jesus’ future mortal atonement which qualified us for a forgiveness of our sins that we committed during that sphere of action. This is why Jesus was considered as “slain from the foundation of the world.”

Response: This is true that Jesus’ atonement is for all the Seed of Adam both before the foundation of the world and after. But who are the Seed of Adam? Who are the Noble and Great Ones? Who are the Just Men and Women Made Perfect? Who are the Sons of Perdition? This sphere is what is referred to as the Battlefield of Souls and we are choosing to either follow God, follow Satan, or do nothing and remain Telestial forever, until we choose to either be “reborn” in the image of Christ, or to follow the Adversary.

To understand the mysteries of godliness is to understand our very reason for existence. To learn more about these principles of Eternal Lives please refer to the Translation of the Book of Moses.

I’m trying to understand how this model incorporates the doctrine Alma taught: “Now, behold, I have spoken unto you concerning the death of the mortal body, and also concerning the resurrection of the mortal body. I say unto you that this mortal body is raised to an immortal body, that is from death, even from the first death unto life, that they can die no more; their spirits uniting with their bodies, never to be divided; thus the whole becoming spiritual and immortal, that they can no more see corruption.” (Alma 11:45) So if the spirit and body can never be divided again, how could a being return to a telestial mortality?

  2. It is the same principle by which Adam and Eve, having bodies of a Terrestrial Glory, condescended to a Telestial glory to serve us by sacrificing themselves that we may live. Each person will achieve a resurrection, except those who are sent to outer darkness. The kind of resurrection depends upon our estate of glory and obedience. Once resurrected we cannot die, but we can willingly lay aside our glory as a sacrifice for God to help save souls in His Kingdom, hence, the Laws of Sacrifice and Offerings.

If Adam and Eve were Terrestrial spirits, then why didn’t they already have the knowledge (of good and evil) that is “given freely” to those in their first estate? Did they return to a state of ignorance? And then their transgression caused them to descend even more?

Also, based on your plan of salvation model, wouldn’t Adam and Eve be Celestial spirits (sixth estate-temporal father and helpmeet)?

And could you give an example of a “temporal son and helpmeet”?

  4. Adam and Eve were not in their first estate when they had forgotten all in the Garden eastward of Eden. Their transgression made it possible for them to take mortal bodies. I feel I cannot say more beyond that. I would ask the Lord to sort the rest out for you if you believe there is any truth to this.

So are the “seed of Adam” limited to all those who belong to THIS earth only? Or does his seed (the Adam who lived in this earth’s Eden) extend to other worlds? I always believed from the book of Moses that there is an Adam and Eve for each earth/battlefield of souls; is this correct?

Which leads also into this question: the rhetoric that Jeshua is the Savior for all of God the Father’s “battlefield” earths, and that ours is the only earth wicked enough to slay him. Is this simply the precepts of men? Is there a separate ‘savior’ for each of Heavenly Father’s earths?

  7. The occupants of this earth are the most evil of Jehovah’s creation, but in the universe their exists planets that are far worse. The closer one gets to Lucifer’s dominion the worse it gets.

    1. Jehovah creates evil occupants? I thought people become evil by succumbing to enticements from Satan? [All creation is without sin and becomes progressively righteous or evil in time.PR]
    2. Anyhow, this world has “the most evil” type of mortal on it right now? [The fourth estate world houses the most righteous and most evil of creation. PR]
    3. Does this mean that this world has an equal number of the opposite on it? (the most righteous of Jehovah’s creation) [It doesn’t always stay equal. There is a constant flow of diversity of opposition. PR]
    4. If we are on the outer rim of our galaxy, are we closer to God’s dwelling place (the center of our milky way, right?) or closer to Lucifer’s dwelling place? [Lucifer’s dimension is below, the galaxy spreads out and is within God’s dominion. PR]
    5. The earth is a 4th estate… what sort of things can an earth do to become exalted though? It has no arms and legs to serve with, mouth to speak/preach with. Is there some sort of alternate dimension we are not aware of whereby the earth can do things that we also do in order to demonstrate our love to the Lord? [The planetary creations abide by different laws than we do, but follow the pattern of the Everlasting Covenant. The Lord would need to reveal the details of this to you. PR]
