Who Is Satan?

Why is it important to know about Satan? Because you must know your enemy to personally defeat him. I was instructed today to share a few portions of my journal:

“His original name was Shaw-Hum, “The Mighty Voice of God.” This was how he was known for his many good deeds. At the end of the Millennium he was seduced by Lucifer to the darkness. There are many who choose such paths because they seek their own gratification and dominion. Everything is explained to them. Lucifer paints a glorious picture. All Satan must do is inject himself into the role as Satan, the god of that world, and his kingdom is set. As he is sent to outer darkness, he will some day have the opportunity to stand as a Lucifer and recruit new “Satans” and expand his dark Kingdom. As God’s kingdoms are ascending in glory, Satan’s are descending in darkness. The level of dominion and debauchery that he and his devils can experience in mortality will have an influence on the level of pleasure they can experience throughout eternity. Of course, it is not joy, but carnal, devilish, and a worm that cannot quench. But this is what they have chosen. As the Kingdom of the Devil expands, Lucifer becomes the Great Satan and his father becomes Sheshahim, the Father of All Darkness. I am beginning to understand. There truly is opposition in all things.”

“The Kingdom of Darkness follows a similar pattern to the Kingdom of Heaven. Upon this earth, in its telestial state we begin to decide in which direction we will go, to the light or the darkness. The farther up in progression an angel is before they fall, the more dominion they have in the kingdom of darkness, and they continue to rise in that kingdom as they follow their master’s command, just as we do in the Lords.”

“He (Satan) was a fourth estate being who was known for his powerful oratory skills and charisma. As the Great Council is preparing to take place at the end of the Millennium to announce the calling and ascension of 4th, 5th, and 6th estate beings, Satan is loosed for a season. What this means is that the Adversary is given freedom to seduce the Sons and Daughters of God. How does he do this? Through his emissaries. Satan, known by another name at the time, convinced 200 other angels to be taught by Lucifer what must occur to receive a kingdom in the dark realm. They were seduced by being shown all the great pleasures and dominions that awaited them in the dark kingdom. It was like the ultimate commercial and promotional package, as they witnessed the great things they could have. There would be no selfless sacrifice, no boredom, no waiting. It was like witnessing pornography on a universal scale. Their minds were forever corrupted by power, greed, selfishness, hate, and debauchery.”

“It all comes down to seeking more dominion, physical gratification, and experience. It is an all-for-me approach. One of the strategies for growing their dominion is to entice the children of men to serve them in exchange for pleasure and wealth. It begins in the spirit world among those who have already passed on. They are offered to be reborn in a body and family which will give them more privileges that they had before. In exchange they do their master’s bidding. Those who perform well are rewarded. If they, while in the flesh, make a covenant with Satan by shedding the blood of a good person, they are promised more favors in this life and the next. They become marked amongst the damned, not of the same level as a son of perdition, but they too will be swept into outer darkness when the earth is finished. They will descend to Lucifer’s kingdom with him to enjoy whatever reward they have earned.”

“The greatest coup that a dark spirit can perform is to block a 4th estate being from performing their mission. If they can get them to cross over they are richly rewarded. The extent to which they can harm a spirit of light will determine their place in Satan’s kingdom. The most devious and evil of Satan’s angels are assigned to what they determine to be probable higher beings born in this world. It is a meticulous and patient process because those born under the covenant of God are protected by angels of light. Sons of Perdition will not touch them because the risk of being sealed up in the Eternal Prison is too great. If they get sent there they cannot come out until the end, and they lose their opportunity to build their experiences. Without their mortal experiences they will have less to use to create and experience eternal gratification in the dark eternities. So, these dark spirits, second estate beings, will learn everything about the children of Adam, or potential 4th estate beings and as a “familiar spirit” lie in wait to deceive their entire life. The numbers of spirits that follow a son of God increases, but become more difficult to attack as their light grows and they grow in priesthood.”

“I then asked the Lord about the Adversary and whether he will have his own coming in glory to the world. The Lord said, “Yes.” When Satan comes, he will be hailed as the Messiah, come in a translated body and appear to large groups of people. Mostly in the Islam faith and places of power will he come. The Lord said it would be dazzling to the eyes, he will wear gold and white, and the way to know that it is not him is that he will not invite all to come forth and touch him. It will be from a distance. Those who do not worship him will be slaughtered. These things will begin after America is cut down and as the Kingdom of the Beast begins to rise in the world.”

How do we resist the temptations of the Adversary?

It will always be there. Even Jesus was tempted throughout His life. The angels are tempted to fall from their glorified stations. How could any such glorified being fall? It happens when a soul turns inward, seeking their own comfort, pleasure, desires, and addictions. When the love of men and angels wax cold, they fall. Yes, even angels. Even the angels are of varying degrees of faith. The most important quality you can possess in this life is a zeal for faith: to seek the Lord’s will and to act upon it. Such faith will carry you through the Everlasting Covenant and ensure that the temptations of Satan never have a place in you.

  1. Is there a way to reset yourself spiritually?

What I mean is, I feel I can’t hear the Lord anymore and I do not know how to center myself to receive revelation. I feel I am bombarded spiritually and am not sure how to proceed. Even when I ask, “Lord what would you have me do?” It is met with silence and I feel stuck.

Any suggestions? [The best thing to do when you hit a brick wall like this is to go on a fast. I’m not specifically talking about a food fast, but disconnecting from the world for a time and focusing on the Lord. You would need to put aside work, phone, and regular stresses and spend your time praying, thinking, praising, and reaching out to the Lord. The amount of time it takes is relevant to how far you have been drowning in the cares of the world. PR]

We do hope your wife is prompted and allowed to share more of her journey as well.

I’m pretty sure s’tan loves the attention.

Why do so many of these things preach to fear satan? It is the beginning of Proverbs and why Wisdom cries. Fearing the Lord is the the beginning of Wisdom. We dwell safely, quiet from the fear of evil. [Perfect love for the Lord casts out all and any fear we may have for Satan. It would be naive to dismiss the Adversary as weak and foolish. There is a reason I posted this information about Satan. PR]

Charity never faileth – Moroni 7:46. If Shaw-Hum performed many good deeds for God and had Charity, at what point would someone like that begin deviating? It seems that he would have been seeking and acting on revelation if he had Charity. [Someone with charity is like the person at the Tree of Life who partook of the fruit then looked around in shame after beholding the Great and Spacious Building. This part of Lehi’s Vision is regarding after literally entering into God’s Kingdom. These people are 3rd estate and higher. PR]

  10. Joseph Rogers says:

First of all, thank you to ccstrebe for posting that scripture (2 Ne 24:16). It is very relevant to my question for PR on how we view the adversary.

PR: I’m glad you posted this on Satan. You have hinted at bits and pieces of this in other writings, but it’s nice to have it all together in one post. However, I’m still struggling to fully understand the allure of Satan to beings from higher estates (3rd estate and above). Am I correct that Satan and those in the dark kingdom do not have creative power? They do not create bodies, planets, etc.., but instead rely on hijackings the creations of God. [That is not entirely correct. There are two kinds of intelligence: those who act and those who are acted upon. Satan will attempt to impose his will, including upon the creation of bodies for intelligences. There are many dark created beings in the universe, and such are not allowed to have physical bodies upon this earth, yet they are able to act as Satan’s demonic forces against the children of men and the sons and daughters of Adam. PR]

Also, it feels like the power structure of the adversary is one big pyramid scheme, relying on continual recruiting of new underlings in order to grow in domain. God helps his followers grow in power and priesthood, progressing through the estates by BECOMING like him. However, followers of Satan get their power through recruitment, building their gang following, so to speak. But not holding any actual real power that could compare with the kingdoms of light. [Both the Kingdom of Light and Darkness are mirror opposites of each other, yet follow a similar pattern. As God lifts us out of love, He and She increase in glory by the Grace of the Father above them. And, so it is with the Kingdom of Darkness, but it is love of self that motivates that dominion. PR]

So my point is…I can see the allure of Satan’s temptations in this Telestial world, but for those who have tasted Terrestrial and Celestial glory it would just seem silly to them. It’s like a playground bully and his thugs who terrified kids in elementary school. However, once you advance to high school and above and look back on those days, the bully is no longer terrifying, but an object to be pitied. How in the world could 4th estate beings who KNOW God and are in line to receive all that He has fall for the playground antics of Satan’s trickery? [It would seem impossible to fathom after tasting the love of God that anyone would choose darkness. One good explanation can be found in Lehi’s Dream, where after they partook of the fruit they cast their eyes about…(1 Nephi 8:25-28) Lehi was witnessing a prophetic dream that shown some light on the Everlasting Covenant. People often think the spacious building is simply some lure of the world, but it is more than that. It is literally the lure of Satan’s Kingdom, which is all the debauchery that the world has to offer. He uses fear, pride, lust, doubt, and every kind of temptation to seduce those who have received Eternal Life to deny the Holy Ghost and choose him. The love of God and others is the glue that keeps us from taking that path, but once we turn inward we are susceptible to those temptations, even after experiencing the higher realms. The story of the “Watchers” in the Book of Enoch is an example of fallen angels and what is possible. PR]

[As far as the reference to 2 Nephi 24:16, this is very similar to how we might look upon a war criminal, or someone who has been captured. When the great and spacious building collapses, Satan’s work upon this world will be finished. He and his followers will be confined to this world until he is loosed for a short season to tempt the angels of God before the Grand Council and Final Judgment. After which they are to be sent to Outer Darkness. Here, they will exist in a manner that they choose. PR]

PR- I am truly grateful that the Lord allows you to share the “heavy” knowledge. It all makes perfect sense. Is there a point 4th Estates go where there is likely no return?… meaning it’s likely they will become a Son of Perdition. Like an addiction they never entirely kicked in life, doubt they’ve held onto for too long, pride in being a leader, or a life like King David’s? [Once a 4th estate dips into Outer Darkness to learn what Lucifer has to offer them it is unlikely they will change course. And this occurs before Adam and Eve fall. PR]

It bothers me that Shaw-Hum had Charity and still turned away from God. I’m curious what his behavior leading up this was, and if that’s true for most. I like to think that patterns of behavior don’t entirely matter and that people come back from most everything through God’s grace. [Even in this world, after ascending to one’s third estate, a person can give in to temptation and be buffetted by Satan, but they cannot lose their place unless they partake of dark oaths before a new world. What advice do you have for people reading this that just can’t seem to break an addiction as hard as they try? They continue to turning to the Lord and repenting but just cycle back into their addiction on a regular basis. [Addictions are a difficult part of life’s challenges. Some people suffer more than others, and the Lord knows all about the details of each person’s history. The important thing to remember is that God’s grace is not equal to our degree of perfection, but that our desire to know and love Him outweigh any sin that we bear. This is the definition of repentance, and all that he requires to save us. However, the more the flesh controls our actions, the more difficult it is to exercise the gifts of the Spirit; but that is not a qualifier for His love. This is my response to addictive sins that hamper our spiritual sensitivities such as: alcohol, drugs, addictive substances, pornography, gambling, immorality, stealing, etc. Any of these can at some point become so deep that the Adversary can lure a person to even greater sin such as adultery, murder, and dark oaths. My advice is to never lose hope and focus on your love for the Lord and not despair when addictive behaviors resurface. A period of fasting usually does the trick: removing oneself from the environment that lead to the temptation. Spend a few days resetting your spiritual clock. Stay away from phone, people who hurt, or any worldly reminder and just worship. The Lord always forgives, and you move forward. PR]

If by being out of the church, I am therefore personally lifted out of condemnation and free to spring-board my spiritual life, I would seriously re-think things. I definitely don’t want to be a fence sitter. Your thoughts? [Being a member of the Church does not inhibit anyone from receiving the fullness of the Gospel. It is not a condemnation upon individuals, but the Church institution, which had not brought forth the fruit the Lord had commanded. PR}

Is shame something that leads some to follow the adversary? [Some synonyms for shame are contempt, irritation, carnal, and impure. After a person is saved and inherits Eternal Life they are still free to choose. Satan’s temptation of an existence without self- sacrifice, and one of self gratification is offered, it is a great temptation to such people. PR]

Hello PR, I am struggling to reconcile this description of the devil’s kingdom with the descriptions we have in the scriptures, such as this from Abinidi:

“And then shall the wicked be cast out, and they shall have cause to howl, and weep, and wail, and gnash their teeth; and this because they would not hearken unto the voice of the Lord; therefore the Lord redeemeth them not.”

You’re describing devils who are cut off from God, yet experiencing carnal pleasure for eternity and enjoying the rewards they have earned in Lucifer’s kingdom. That does not sound like cause to howl and weep and wail and gnash their teeth. What exactly is the punishment of those who follow Satan? What causes the weeping and wailing that the prophets have described as the future for followers of the adversary? And how are those evil-doers allowed to return to a kingdom of God’s glory, the Telestial Kingdom, to enjoy the blessings of life again while tormenting God’s righteous children? Please help me understand this. [There are those who are telestial who suffer for their own sins. Their hell is as was described, but they are not sent to outer darkness. Satan and his followers go to another place where they exist in a state of suffering that is incompressible to the righteous. So, why does Abraham say that Satan kept not his first estate if he was a fourth estate being that was seduced into darkness and fell? [The use of the word “estate” is different in the language of Abraham than it is when discussing the Eight Estates of the Everlasting Covenant. In the context of exalted beings it means to have a status in the Kingdom of Heaven. You might replace the word estate with the word “position.” Those who were with Abraham were as the “angels of God” with a covenant of priesthood before the foundation of the world. (Alma 13, D&C 84) To emphasize this transliteration you can also refer to the words of Jude:1:6 “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.” Angels are typically referred to as messengers and exalted beings. However, the spirits of the “First Estate” in the Everlasting Covenant had not yet experienced mortality. I know this teaching is different than the orthodox Mormon belief, so you will need to make your own determination. PR]

So some people who died and went to the spirit world can be born/reincarnated into another physical body. Can reincarnation also occur with “good” spirits? [Once a person receives the gift of the Holy Ghost from their second estate they do not come down again in this world. PR]

  38. ccstrebe says:

Did Lucifer have a resurrected body of flesh and bones before he rebelled?

D&C 76:25 And this we saw also, and bear record, that an ANGEL of God who was in authority in the presence of God, who rebelled against the Only Begotten Son whom the Father loved and who was in the bosom of the Father, was thrust down from the presence of God and the Son,

26 And was called Perdition, for the heavens wept over him—he was Lucifer, a son of the morning.

D&C 129:1 There are two kinds of beings in heaven, namely: ANGELS, who are resurrected personages, having bodies of flesh and bones—

To me, these two scriptures make it pretty cut and dry that the answer is “yes.”
